CONFECTIONERY -It is generally known to the citizens of this burg, and it ought to be known in this region generally, that we have one of the best ice cream and confectionery institutions in Ottawa that can be found in this western country anywhere. It is a pleasure to us to take gentlemen in from the East and hear them pronounce the cream the sweetest, the soda the coolest, and the cake and “fixins” generally the best they can get anywhere. But such is the fact. We have traveled a little, and think we ought to know. We have heretofore pronounced Smith a public benefactor. For, though he relieves the people of a little surplus change, does he not light up their countenances with smiles, and send them away on better terms with themselves and the rest of mankind? There are few things that put a man on better humor than some agreeable condiments in his stomach. Therefore we advise the people to patronize Smith. We would suggest to the good men who we sometimes notice there the propriety of bringing their wives and children down of an evening. Women can appreciate good ice cream as well as the “Lords of Creation.” Mr. Smith’s little salon ought, in addition to the generous patronage of the day, to be crowded every evening by young men and maidens, old mend and matrons, while of course we would not prevent the single unfortunates from “going it alone”, or ganders from going it in unnatural pairs. The main thing is to go.
